September is officially here – and that means new schedules, new routines, and busier mornings across the city.

Whether you’re heading back to school, commuting more regularly, or adjusting your daily trip, a little planning can help you feel more prepared before you leave.

Here are a few TTC tips to keep in mind this month.

1

Start with your TTC travel toolkit

Before you head to the bus, streetcar, or subway, review these digital tools that can help you plan your trip and stay informed along the way.

  • Use the TTC Live Map to see current service information across the system.
  • Check Live Service Alerts before you leave and while you’re travelling.
  • Plan your route, find transfer points, and estimate your travel time with the TTC Trip Planner.
  • Download the Transit app for real-time information while you’re on the go.
  • Sign up for MyTTC e-Alerts to receive updates for the routes you use most.

Bookmark these pages or save them to your phone so it's easier to find them when you need them!

New monthly fare capping makes it even easier to pay

The TTC introduced monthly fare capping on September 1, 2026, to give frequent travellers more flexibility and better value. Eligible customers who pay with the same PRESTO card, PRESTO in mobile wallet, Interac® Debit card, credit card, or mobile wallet will automatically ride free after 47 paid trips in a calendar month.

Make sure you tap the same card or device every time so that your trips count toward the monthly cap – trip counts are tracked separately by payment method and reset at the beginning of each month. Keep tapping your card when you ride even after you reach the cap to show Proof-of-Payment if requested.

With the introduction of monthly fare capping, TTC Adult, Youth, Senior, and Fair Pass monthly passes, and Youth and Senior 12-Month passes were discontinued on August 31, 2026. Adults should continue to subscribe to the Adult 12-Month Pass, and eligible post-secondary students should continue to purchase a TTC Post-Secondary Monthly Pass for the best value.

Post-secondary students must purchase a TTC Post-Secondary Photo ID Card from the TTC Photo ID Centre at Bathurst Station or at selection on-campus locations throughout September and October before they can purchase and load a TTC Post-Secondary Monthly Pass on a PRESTO card.

Review your route before you leave

If your routine is changing, take some time to plan your trip before your first day. Check where your nearest stop or station is, how long the trip usually takes, and whether you’ll need to transfer.

The TTC makes service changes approximately every six weeks to adjust routes and schedules based on ridership demand and to accommodate construction projects, and the next service changes are scheduled for Sunday, September 6.

Use the TTC Trip Planner to confirm your route, stop location and expected travel time before heading out.

4

Practice the trip if it’s new

For students, families, or anyone starting a new commute, it can be helpful to try the route in advance. A practice trip can make it easier to identify transfer points, find the right stop or station entrance, and get familiar with the area around your destination.

5

Give yourself more time during the first few weeks

September can bring busier travel periods as students, families, and commuters return to regular routines. If you’re travelling during the morning or afternoon rush, consider leaving a little earlier than usual, especially if you need to make a connection or arrive by a specific time.

Before you leave and while you’re on the go, check Live Service Alerts on ttc.ca or use the Transit app for real-time information.

Start September prepared

A new routine can take a few days to get used to. Checking your route, allowing extra time, and knowing where to find updates can help you start September with more confidence on the TTC.
