Monthly fare capping coming to the TTC September 1, 2026

Starting September 1, 2026, taking the TTC will be even more cost-effective than ever, with the introduction of monthly fare capping! 

Customers who pay their fare with a PRESTO card, PRESTO in mobile wallet, or debit or credit card, will be able to take advantage of this, making it even easier to pay the lowest fare when travelling on the TTC. 

With the introduction of monthly fare capping in September, the Youth, Adult, Senior and Fair Pass Transit Discount Program TTC Monthly Passes will be discontinued August 31, 2026. 

How fare capping will work: 

• Adults, youth, seniors and Fair Pass customers will automatically receive free travel after they have reached 47 paid trips in a calendar month. A paid trip is the first tap that starts a two-hour transfer period. When someone taps their card or mobile device on a reader or fare gate when boarding a vehicle or entering a station to begin a trip, the fare is deducted, and a two-hour transfer is applied to the card, or mobile wallet payment. Additional taps within the two-hour transfer period are free. 
• Customers must use the same method of payment and device throughout the entire calendar month to reach the monthly fare cap. Switching between a card, mobile wallet payment or device will delay the 47-trip cap being achieved. For example, customers that pay with their phone one week, and use a watch another week, will delay being able to achieve the monthly fare cap because the devices each have their own fare cap count going on them. 
• Customers must tap every time they board a vehicle or enter a station, even if the monthly fare cap has been reached. This ensures Proof-of-Payment is captured on the card or device if a Provincial Offences Officer inspects a customer’s fare. 
• New paid trip counts will be reset on the first day of each month and continue until the cap is reached. 

Benefits of fare capping: 

• Accessible and more affordable way to pay a fare, making it even easier to use the TTC. 
• Same price or less than a monthly pass, without needing to pay up front or worry about when to purchase one. 
• Adults, youth, seniors and Fair Pass customers will no longer need to purchase a TTC Monthly Pass after August. 
• Monthly fare capping happens simply by tapping a PRESTO card, PRESTO in mobile wallet, debit or credit card, or mobile device.
