Fare types and discounts

Fare capping offers customers more flexibility and the value of a monthly pass without needing to buy one in advance. Once you reach the 47-fare cap, the rest of your trips on the TTC in that calendar month are free.
TTC Adult, Youth, Senior and Fair Pass monthly passes and Youth and Senior 12-Month passes will be discontinued on August 31, 2026. Adult 12-Month Passes and Post-Secondary Student Monthly Passes will still be available for purchase. Learn more about monthly fare capping.
Some customers qualify for free or discounted TTC fares based on age, student status, income, or accessibility needs.

Important ID requirements:
- Youths aged 16 and older and seniors must carry valid photo ID.
- Post-secondary students must present their TTC Post-Secondary Photo ID Card when requested.
Please note: PRESTO Tickets are only available at the Adult cash fare price. There are no youth or senior PRESTO Tickets. If you are a youth or senior, you should purchase a PRESTO card and change the fare type to deduct a youth or senior fare.
Children 12 and under
Children 12 and under ride free.
A Child fare type can be added to an existing or new PRESTO card by visiting Shoppers Drug Mart or a participating Customer Service Outlet. Proof of age is required.
Child fare types must be set in person. It is not possible to purchase or set a PRESTO card with a Child fare type online or from a fare vending machine.
Youth 13 to 19
Youth aged 13 to 19 are eligible for discounted youth fares.

How to set a Youth fare type on PRESTO
A Youth fare type can be added to an existing or new PRESTO card by visiting Shoppers Drug Mart or a participating Customer Service Outlet. Proof of age is required.
Youth fare types must be set in person. It is not possible to purchase or set a PRESTO card with a Youth fare type online or from a fare vending machine.

Youth ID requirements
Youth aged 16 to 19 are required to carry one of the following forms of photo identification as proof of age when travelling on the TTC:
- High school photo ID
- Driver’s license
- Ontario Photo Card
Seniors 65 and older
Seniors aged 65 and older are eligible for discounted senior fares.

How to set a Senior fare type on PRESTO

Senior ID requirements
Seniors are required to carry one of the following forms of photo identification as proof of age when travelling on the TTC:
- Driver’s license
- Ontario Photo Card
- TTC Senior’s Photo ID, if you already have one. These are no longer available from the TTC.
Post-secondary students
Post-secondary students may be eligible for a discounted TTC Post-Secondary Monthly Pass.
To purchase and use a TTC Post-Secondary Monthly Pass, eligible students must have a TTC Post-Secondary Photo ID Card. Learn how and where to get a TTC Post-Secondary Photo ID Card.
Please note: The TTC Post-Secondary Photo ID Card cannot be used with a Youth fare. Post-secondary students who are 19 or under should set their PRESTO card to a Youth fare type to pay the Youth fare or be prepared to show valid photo ID when paying a Youth cash fare.

How to set a Post-Secondary Student fare type on PRESTO
Take your TTC Post-Secondary Photo ID Card and your physical or digital PRESTO card to any Shoppers Drug Mart or participating Customer Service Outlet to have your Post-Secondary Student fare type set on your card.

Eligibility requirements
To use the Post-Secondary Monthly Pass, students must be one of the following:
- Enrolled in a full-time degree or diploma program in a recognized post-secondary institution located in Toronto. A recognized post-secondary institution must comply with the Post-Secondary Education Choice and Excellence Act, 2000.
- Enrolled as a full-time student at a private career college located in Toronto and registered under the Private Career Colleges Act, 2005.

Fair Pass Transit Discount Program
The Fair Pass Transit Discount Program is a City of Toronto poverty reduction initiative that helps make the TTC and Wheel-Trans more affordable for eligible low-income Toronto residents.
The discount is programmed onto a PRESTO card and saves 36% on TTC single Adult fare rides and 21% on TTC Adult monthly passes.

Eligibility requirements
To be eligible for the Fair Pass Transit Discount Program, you must:
- live in the City of Toronto
- be 20 to 64 years old
- meet the program’s definition of low-income
- have a PRESTO card number
Other fare cards and passes
Convention Pass
The Convention Pass is available for eligible conventions, conferences, meetings and similar events, and provides unlimited travel for visiting customers on all regular routes including the subway, buses and streetcars within the City of Toronto. Learn more about the Convention Pass.
Support Person Assistance Card
The Support Person Assistance Card is available for eligible customers with disabilities and allows one support person to travel with the cardholder at no additional charge. Learn more about the Support Person Assistance Card.
TTC CNIB Transit Card
