King Street East from Bright to Trinity Streets - essential rail replacement

What we are doing and why

Starting as early as Monday, July 7, 2025 for approximately 30 days, TTC track crews will be conducting essential rail replacement on King Street East, between Bright Street and Trinity Street. Crews currently plan to start at Bright Street and work west towards Trinity Street. To expedite some work, preliminary activities around King Street East and Bright Street will begin on Monday, June 23, 2025.

This work is part of TTC’s preventative maintenance program to ensure safe and reliable streetcar operations.

 

Work activities, hours and timeline

  • TTC crews will begin setting up traffic controls and the work zone overnight on Sunday, July 6.
  • Work activities are expected to start on Monday, July 7 and will continue until completion.
  • Work activities will include concrete saw-cutting, concrete breaking/removal, rail replacement, and placement of new concrete. Concrete breaking/removal work will be conducted during the daytime.
  • Some activities will be conducted around-the-clock to ensure quality installation of new rail and concrete.
  • Noise and lights from construction activities should be expected.
  • All work is expected to be completed by early August.

 

Motorist, cyclist, and pedestrian impacts

  • All work activities will be contained within the streetcar allowance (centre lanes) on King Street East. Traffic will be maintained in the curb lanes.
  • To create safe a work zone, street parking and curbside patios will be temporarily restricted in the immediate area.
  • The location of the work zone may inhibit left turns.
  • Following the completion of work, all traffic restrictions and the work zone will be cleared.
  • A paid duty officers and/or flag persons will be on-site to help facilitate traffic movements.
  • Pedestrian access will be maintained.
