Your end-of-summer TTC checklist
There’s a lot happening in Toronto at this time of year!
If you’re squeezing in one more summer outing, visiting a local attraction, or settling back into a regular routine, a bit of planning before you leave can help you avoid surprises along the way.
Here are a few simple reminders to keep in mind before you head out.
Check your route before you go
Schedules, routes, and travel times can change throughout the year, so it’s always a good idea to check your trip before leaving. The TTC makes service changes approximately every six weeks to adjust routes and schedules based on ridership demand and to accommodate construction projects. The next service changes are scheduled for Sunday, September 6 and will be updated in the first week of September.
Use the Trip Planner to confirm your route, stop location, and expected travel time. You can also sign up for MyTTC e‑Alerts to get route-specific updates.
Look up what's happening around the city
Late August is a busy time in Toronto, with major events, festivals, and attractions bringing more people onto the TTC. The Canadian National Exhibition (CNE) runs from August 21 to September 7, 2026, so customers travelling near Exhibition Place or through nearby routes may want to plan ahead.

Give yourself extra time during busy travel periods
Even when you know your route well, busy events, construction, weather, and traffic can affect travel. If you're heading to an event, making a connection, or need to arrive by a specific time, consider leaving a little earlier than usual.

Have your fare ready
Whether you are using PRESTO, Interac® Debit or credit card, mobile wallet, or cash, having your fare payment of choice ready before boarding can help keep customers moving, especially during busy travel periods.
Check your PRESTO balance ahead of time, make sure your card or payment method is easy to access, and allow a few extra minutes if you need to load funds before your trip.
Know where to find help
If your plans change while you’re travelling, there are a few ways to get information. Use the TTC Trip Planner to look for alternate routes, check Live Service Alerts for updates, and ask TTC staff if you need assistance. For next-vehicle arrival times for buses and streetcars at specific stops, text the multi-digit stop number on the stop pole to 898882 (TXTTTC) – you can also text HELP to that same number for more information.
