King Street West from Strachan Avenue to Spadina Avenue - essential streetcar rail repairs
What we are doing and why
From May 3 to 8, 2026 and May 10 to 12, 2026, TTC track crews will complete essential rail and concrete repairs on the streetcar centre lanes along five sections of King Street West from east of Strachan Avenue to west of Spadina Avenue.
Work will take place in two phases with a two-day pause in between. Crews will begin work east of Strachan Avenue and proceed east toward Spadina Avenue.
These necessary repairs are part of the TTC’s preventative maintenance program, which ensures safe and reliable streetcar operations.
Work activities, hours, and timeline
- TTC crews will set up the work zone on May 3 at 11 p.m.
- Crews will work around the clock until May 8 at 4 a.m.
- Crews will not work on May 8 and 9.
- Crews will resume work on May 10 at 4 a.m. and will continue working around the clock until the remaining work is completed on May 12 by 4 a.m.
- Work will consist of concrete saw-cutting, concrete breaking/removal, replacement of streetcar rail, and placement of new concrete. Noise and dust is to be expected.
Motorist, parking, and pedestrian impacts
- TTC crews will work in the streetcar centre lanes along sections of King Street West from east of Strachan Avenue to west of Spadina Avenue. This will allow eastbound and westbound vehicular access. Sections of pay-and-display (Green P) parking on both the north and south sides of King Street West, adjacent to the work zone, will be temporarily removed to accommodate eastbound and westbound vehicular access.
- At the intersection of King Street West and Portland Street, only right turns will be permitted. Left turns and through access will not be allowed.
- While sidewalk access will be maintained adjacent to the work zones, the following crossing restrictions will be in place:
- At King Street West and Stanley Terrace, pedestrians can safely cross on the east side of the intersection.
- At King Street West and Brandt Street, pedestrians can safely cross on the west side of the intersection.
- Paid Duty Officers will be on-site to assist with safety.
