Islington Station Easier Access Project: Escalator Out of Service

Effective April 14, 2025
The TTC’s Easier Access Program is making subway stations accessible to everyone. As part of this initiative, the next phase of construction is currently underway at Islington Station.
Effective April 14, 2025, the escalator connecting the on-street level to the concourse level at Islington Station will be temporarily out of service. This closure is required to maintain emergency egress within the station while Easier Access construction continues.
Accessible Travel Options
Islington Station is not currently accessible. While construction is underway, customers who require accessible service are encouraged to use one of the following nearby accessible subway stations:
1. Kipling Station (West of Islington – accessible)
• Fully accessible with elevators from street level to subway platforms
2. Royal York Station (East of Islington – accessible)
• Fully accessible with elevators and barrier-free access
Accessible buses are equipped with ramps and are wheelchair-friendly.
Traffic and pedestrian impact
The on-street escalator will be unavailable during construction. Pedestrian access will remain available via stairs. Please follow posted signage and use caution while navigating the station.
Work hours
Construction work will occur Monday to Friday between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Occasional weekend work may be required to maintain the project schedule.
TTC service
Access to subway platforms will be maintained throughout construction. Bus service will not be impacted. Any planned subway service changes or disruptions will be communicated in advance.
