Essential Rail Maintenance on Spadina Avenue
What we are doing and why
As part of the TTC's ongoing streetcar track maintenance and state-of-good-repair program, crews will perform track repairs, rail grinding, and drainage maintenance at various locations along the Spadina Avenue streetcar lanes (centre lanes).
Starting as early as Monday, October 19 and continuing until October 21, 2026, TTC crews will perform essential streetcar infrastructure maintenance at three locations:
- Spadina Avenue from Harbord Street to Wilcocks Street: Track repairs within the streetcar right-of-way around-the-clock.
- Spadina Avenue from Oxford Street to St. Andrew Street: Rail grinding operations between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m. nightly.
- Spadina Station tunnel entrance (south of Bloor Street): Overnight drain cleaning using a vacuum truck.
This work is required to maintain safe and reliable streetcar infrastructure, improve drainage, and extend the service life of the streetcar network. While some noise is expected, effort will be made to minimize impacts.
Motorist, cyclist, and pedestrian impacts
- The slow-moving rail grinding vehicle will operate within the streetcar lanes.
- The majority of work will be within the dedicated streetcar lanes. Traffic on Spadina Avenue is expected to be maintained.
- Any traffic restrictions that may be required will be temporary.
- Pedestrian access will be maintained.
