Subway Assistance Messenger announcements
Starting June 10, 2026, the TTC will begin using Subway Assistance Messenger announcements at stations, to help address disruptive or unsafe behaviour on subway platforms.
The real-time audio announcements will be directed to a specific area of a station where Transit Control has identified a concern through monitoring or via a customer report through the SafeTTC app.
The goal is to encourage respectful behaviour, improve customer comfort, and support a safer transit environment for everyone.
How the system works
Once a concern, such as loitering, unruly behaviour, vandalism or property damage, smoking or drinking, is identified and verified, Transit Control can issue a targeted announcement to the specific location where the disruptive or unsafe behaviour is happening.
If the behaviour stops, no further action is required. If the behaviour continues, additional response measures may be taken.
The announcements are intended to:
- Help improve safety and comfort for customers and employees
- Promote respectful behaviour across the transit system
- Support TTC staff in responding to incidents as they occur
How to report a concern
See something. Say something.
Customers can discreetly report safety and security concerns using the SafeTTC app or by speaking with a TTC employee.
This station announcement system is one of several initiatives that support the TTC’s ongoing efforts to create a transit system where customers feel safe, welcome, and supported. The initiative aligns with the TTC’s Community Safety, Security and Well-Being Plan (2024-2028) as well supports the TTC’s 5-Year Service and Customer Experience Action Plan (2024-2028) which aims to improve the customer experience while enhancing safety and comfort.
