What we are doing and why:
First installed in the late 1970s, the two escalators (2B2E/2B3E) connecting the Spadina Station concourse level and the Line 2 platforms are being replaced as part of TTC’s escalator modernization project. The escalators will be replaced one at a time, with approximately one year for each escalator. Replacing each escalator involves the demolition of the existing escalator and accessories, installation of the new escalators, and installation of escalator controllers and related infrastructure. The scope requires extensive repairs to the building structure around the escalators, and a new electrical supply.
What to expect:
The stairwell and escalator (2B3E) connecting the Line 2 westbound platform to concourse level will be closed from August 12 to 19 to allow for the installation of construction hoarding. Access to the other westbound stairwell will remain available.
Both stairwells will reopen once hoarding has been installed. Escalator 2B3E will remain out of service for replacement, which is expected to take approximately one year.
As of July 2026, work on the escalator connecting the concourse level and Line 2 eastbound platform (2B2E) is complete, and the escalator is back in service.
Protective hoarding will be in place to ensure public safety by separating the work zone from the public during demolition and installation.
Elevators and stairs will be available during this work.
