King Station - Melinda exit closure

Effective September 22, 2023

What we are doing and why:

TTC is building elevators that will make King Station accessible. Construction crews on behalf of TTC started work at street-level on Elevator E1 on Melinda Street and Elevator E3 at Yonge and Colborne Streets in January, 2023. You can find more information on our website.

As part of this construction, crews will be closing the northbound Melinda Exit at King Station (northbound platform level to and from concourse) for approximately four weeks starting as early as September 22, 2023. By implementing the exit closure, the stair and elevator construction can be done concurrently which expedites elevator installation work.

What to expect during this work:

  • All exit/entrance points other than the northbound platform exit/entrance to Melinda exit will remain open throughout duration.
  • Additional temporary wayfinding signage will be installed and platform attendants will be present for effective customer movement.
  • Noise associated with construction can be expected with this work. Efforts will be made to keep levels to a minimum.
  • All work will be contained within the station and within the hoarded area.
  • Construction trucks, equipment and workers will be present in the general area.

Construction activities scheduled during closure:

  • Northbound platform to concourse stair demolition.
  • Demolition of existing structure in place of elevator.
  • Shoring of elevator E3.
  • Installation of new foundations for elevator E3 and associated sump pit.
  • Decommission existing sanitary pit servicing escalators and floor drains.
  • Install temporary sump pit for diversion of existing mechanical services.
  • Open new walkway for public access via Melinda exit.
