Gerrard Street East at DVP Bridge - essential rail repairs

What we are doing and why

Starting as early as Thursday, October 8, TTC will be conducting essential streetcar rail repairs on Gerrard Street East over the Don River/Don Valley Parkway bridge. This work is expected to take approximately 10 days.

This work is essential and necessary before construction begins nearby on Queen Street East, from Leslie Street to Vancouver Avenue, which is scheduled to commence as early as November 1, 2026.

Work hours and timeline

• Crews will establish a safe work zone on the evening of Thursday, October 8 and will work around-the-clock to ensure quality installation of new rail and concrete. Excavation activities and concrete breaking will be carried out at various times during the day.  
• Work activities will include concrete saw-cutting, concrete breaking/removal, rail replacement, and placement of new concrete. Overnight work by TTC may consist of moving new rail into position, installation and welding/grinding.
• Noise and lights from construction activities should be expected.

Motorist, cyclist, and pedestrian impacts

• All work activities will be contained within the streetcar allowance (centre lanes) on Gerrard Street East. Traffic will be maintained in the curb lanes.
• During work at Gerrard/DVP, access to Bayview Avenue via River Street, and to Hennick Bridgepoint Hospital, will be maintained.
• Following the completion of work, all traffic restrictions and the work zone will be cleared.
• Paid duty officers and/or flag persons will be on-site to help facilitate traffic movements.
• Pedestrian access will be maintained.

TTC service – starting 11 p.m. on October 8, 2026

• During this time, 506/306 Carlton streetcars will divert.
• 506/306 Carlton replacement buses will operate on Gerrard Street East through the work zone.
