Parliament Street and Carlton Street - Essential Streetcar Repairs
Timeline: Starting November 17 – for approximately 2 weeks
*Pending weather and unforeseen events.
What we are doing and why
Starting Monday, November 17, 2025, TTC track crews will be conducting essential rail replacement work at the intersection of Parliament Street and Carlton Street. The rail at this intersection is over 20 years old. The work will involve concrete excavation and removal, replacing the curved section of streetcar rail, and restoring the road surface. TTC crews will also take this opportunity to complete overhead wiring work on Parliament Street from Carlton Street to Gerrard Street East.
These essential repairs are part of TTC’s preventative maintenance program to ensure safe and reliable streetcar operations.
Work activities, hours, and timeline
- Crews will begin setting up the work zone shortly after 11 p.m. on Monday, November 17. Construction activities are expected to begin by Tuesday morning.
- Work will consist of concrete milling, followed by concrete saw-cutting, concrete breaking/removal, replacement of streetcar rail, and placement of new concrete.
- Around-the-clock work is required to ensure the quality installation of new rail and concrete.
- Noisy activities will be minimized during overnight hours where possible.
- New concrete will be poured into the track area and set to cure before the road is fully re-opened to streetcar service and vehicular traffic.
- Work is anticipated to take about two weeks starting November 17, pending weather and site conditions.
