Streetcar Pilots Collection Statement
Please note: the following collection statement will cover the Streetcar Illegal Passing Camera Pilot Project as well as the Bunching and Gapping Streetcar Camera Analysis Project.
Collection Statement/Notice of Collection:
The Toronto Transit Commission (“TTC”) is conducting a Bunching and Gapping Streetcar Camera pilot project from Thursday, May 14, 2026 to Thursday, June 11, 2026 (the “BGSC Pilot Project”) and a Streetcar Illegal Passing Camera pilot project from April 2026 to April 2027 (the “SIPC Pilot Project”). The personal information collected by the project is collected under the authority of the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, R.S.O. 1990, c. M.56, and section 166 of the Highway Traffic Act, R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8 (the “HTA”), each as amended from time to time.
The BGSC Pilot Project will be collecting information from a camera mounted on the front dashboard of the streetcar for the purpose of traffic congestion analysis.
The SIPC Pilot Project will be collecting information from cameras installed on the side of the streetcar where passengers board and alight, for the purpose of quantifying the issue and testing the viability and accuracy of camera technology for the issue of automobile infractions respecting the illegal passing of streetcars under the HTA. Tickets will not be issued as part of the pilot.
