Pay your fare with PRESTO in Google Wallet

Android users can pay their fare on the TTC and other transit agencies that accept PRESTO, with PRESTO in Google Wallet. PRESTO in Apple Wallet, debit and credit card payment are also available for customers to use to pay their fare.

Youths, post-secondary students, adults, seniors, and Fair Pass Discount Program customers can use this feature, as long as the PRESTO card in their Google Wallet is set to deduct the right fare.

What is PRESTO in Google Wallet?

PRESTO in Google Wallet is a digital PRESTO card that can be loaded into a Google Wallet, for free, from the PRESTO or Google Wallet apps. Once loaded, customers can tap their Android smartphone or Wear OS smartwatch on a PRESTO reader on a vehicle when boarding on the street or on a fare gate when entering a station to pay.

The digital PRESTO card in Google Wallet can only be active on one device at a time – either an Android smartphone or Wear OS smartwatch. Customers wishing to change devices must transfer their digital card to the other device to pay their fare.

Existing PRESTO card customers can convert their physical PRESTO card into a digital card as long as they have an Android smartphone or Wear OS smartwatch. Once the physical card has been converted it will be cancelled and can no longer be used to pay a fare.

Customers who use PRESTO in Google Wallet will be able to:

  • Load a virtual PRESTO card in their wallet and load funds and passes instantly using their Apple Wallet or PRESTO app
  • Set their PRESTO card in Apple Wallet as their default transit card so they don’t have to unlock their phone to pay their fare; all they have to do is turn their screen on.
  • Receive low balance reminders from their Apple Wallet or PRESTO app.
  • Use their virtual PRESTO card in their Apple Wallet even if their phone needs to be charged. The phone’s power reserve provides up to five hours of support.
  • Transfer their physical PRESTO card to a digital PRESTO card in Apple Wallet.
  • Set up Autorenew and Autoload
  • Take advantage of the TTC’s two-hour transfer, which is only available to customers who pay with PRESTO, as well as debit and credit card payment and PRESTO in Google Wallet payment.

Just like a physical PRESTO card, PRESTO in Google Wallet can be set to deduct a specific fare type, such as youth, post-secondary student or senior. Existing customers who convert their PRESTO card into a digital card in Google Wallet will automatically have their fare type transferred when the card is converted. New PRESTO in Google Wallet customers will need to take their Android device to a Shoppers Drug Mart location or the TTC’s Customer Service Centre, along with their government issued identification or their TTC Post-Secondary Photo ID Card, to have their fare type set on their card.

Proof-of-Payment

A tapped digital PRESTO card in a Google Wallet is a customer’s Proof-of-Payment. During a fare inspection, customers should show the same card they used to pay their fare.

  • Troubleshooting

Why doesn’t my PRESTO in Google Wallet card work?

The most common reason your PRESTO in Google Wallet may not work is that your phone or watch wasn’t held up to the PRESTO reader long enough, or there were other cards next to your phone that the PRESTO device detected.

When you tap to pay your fare, make sure to hold your phone or watch still and move it closer to the payment reader for a few more seconds, until the device confirms that you have tapped successfully. You can also try to move your device out of range of the PRESTO reader for a few seconds and try again. Your NFC antenna could be near the top or bottom of your device. Remember to make sure there are no other payment cards next to your phone when you tap.

What should I do if I lose or factory reset my phone?

If you registered your PRESTO in Google Wallet card to your PRESTO account, you can recover your card by signing into the PRESTO app on a new device, removing the card from your old device and adding it to the new device. On your new device follow these steps:

Step one: Open the Google Wallet app and select your PRESTO card.

Step two: In the top right corner select the three vertical dots.

Step three: Scroll down and select “Move card to another device”. This will allow you to deactivate your PRESTO card and then reactivate it again after the factory reset is complete.

Step four: Once your factory reset is complete and the Google Wallet app is installed select the 'Activate' option to reactivate your card.

If you are using an anonymous PRESTO card in Google Wallet, you can't transfer it to a new device. Register your card to a PRESTO account for added balance protection.
