The TTC is proud to move Toronto this Pride Month

This June, the TTC’s new Pride Bus will be hitting the streets in honour of Pride Month – a celebration of the city’s 2SLGBTQIA+ community and their continued advocacy for a fairer, more inclusive future.

The new bus design highlights significant dates for the TTC and Toronto’s 2SLGBTQIA+ community, including the explicit protection of sexual orientation in the TTC’s equal opportunity policy in 1989, and the TTC’s first entry in Pride Toronto’s annual parade in 2008.

“Pride Month is a time to reflect on 2SLGBTQIA+ legacy, contributions and ongoing activism,” said Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow. “We are incredibly proud to hold one of the world’s largest Pride events here in Toronto, the most diverse city in the world. Together, we are continuing to build a welcoming city where everyone belongs.”

“The TTC is very pleased to be partnering once again with Pride Toronto,” said TTC Chair Jamaal Myers. “For more than 15 years, we’ve celebrated Pride alongside our customers and employees with themed buses, events, and by marching in the Pride Parade. When we come together, there really is no stopping us.”

“Pride at the TTC is driven by our people,” said TTC CEO Mandeep S. Lali. “Year after year, employees step forward to take part in events, march in the parade and represent the TTC with pride. That speaks to who we are. We have the privilege of serving the most diverse city in the world with the most iconic transit system in the world. Our strength lies in our diversity. Working together as One TTC, we build a stronger more inclusive organization every day. We show that through how we treat each other and how we serve our customers.”

The Pride bus will run primarily on the 94 Wellesley, a route that serves the Church-Wellesley Village, the heart of Toronto’s 2SLGBTQIA+ community. The bus will also be at this year’s Pride Parade and Trans and Dyke marches.

As part of its partnership with Pride Toronto, the TTC will display a mural at Wellesley Station aligned with this year’s Pride theme, We won’t stop.

On June 1, TTC employees will gather to officially kick off the month’s festivities and raise the Pride Progress flag at the TTC’s head office. Employee celebrations will include an internal multi-media campaign featuring employees sharing their experiences and reflections this Pride.
