Take the TTC this long weekend, extra service for events across the city

The TTC is preparing for a busy holiday weekend with increased service and staff to help customers travel safely and conveniently to major events, including the Toronto Caribbean Carnival and VELD Music Festival. There will also be temporary bus and streetcar route diversions in place to accommodate event-related road closures.

Toronto Caribbean Carnival

Those attending the Toronto Caribbean Carnival and The Grand Parade on Sat., Aug. 1, can take Line 2 Bloor-Danforth, to Dufferin Station and transfer to a dedicated Exhibition Express shuttle bus which will operate between the station and Dufferin Gate Loop or go to Bathurst Station and transfer to a 511 Bathurst streetcar. Customers can also take Line 1 Yonge-University, to Union Station and transfer to a 509 Harbourfront streetcar.

There will be extra subway service on Lines 1 and 2 throughout the day on Saturday, along with additional streetcar service on the 509 Harbourfront and 511 Bathurst routes to accommodate increased travel to and from the parade. Extra TTC staff will also be positioned at subway stations and other key locations to provide directions and assist customers as needed. The streetcar stop at Fleet St. and Strachan Ave. will not be serviced during the event. Customers can use stops at Exhibition Loop or Fleet St. and Fort York Blvd. as an alternative.

Starting at 12:01 a.m. on Sat., Aug. 1, until 4 a.m. on Sun., Aug. 2, several bus and streetcar routes will divert to accommodate road closures for the event, including:

• 80 Queensway eastbound buses will divert along The Queensway, to Roncesvalles Ave. and Howard Park Ave. Regular westbound service will be maintained.

• 307 Bathurst Night buses will divert southbound from Fort York Blvd., via Lake Shore Blvd. W. and Strachan Ave. Northbound buses will operate along Strachan Ave., Lake Shore Blvd. W., Fleet St. and Bathurst St.
• 504B King streetcar service will be extended to Sunnyside Loop via King St. W. and The Queensway from 7 a.m. until midnight on Sat., Aug. 1.
• 510/310 Spadina streetcars will operate between Spadina Station and Queens Quay Loop between 8 a.m. and midnight on Sat., Aug 1.

VELD Music Festival

Customers heading to the VELD Music Festival are encouraged to take Line 1 Yonge-University to Downsview Park Station. The venue is located approximately a 10-minute walk from the station. Extra TTC staff will be available to assist customers with directions and answer questions.

101 Downsview Park buses will divert both ways via Service Rd., Carl Hall Rd., Chesswood Dr., Sheppard Ave., and Keele St. from 12 p.m. Fri., July 31 until midnight on Sun., Aug. 2. It is anticipated that there will be a higher volume of people and increased traffic in the area for the concert, which may result in delays for customers on several bus routes, including the 41 Keele, 84 Sheppard West, 101 Downsview Park, 106 Sentinel, 107 York University Heights, 108 Driftwood, 128 Stanley Greene, 941 Keele Express and 984 Sheppard West Express.  

Simcoe Day holiday service 

On Mon., Aug. 3, the TTC will be running a holiday service for Simcoe Day. All TTC routes will operate on a Sunday service schedule but will start earlier, at approximately 6 a.m. Any routes that do not normally operate on Sundays will not operate on Simcoe Day. Line 6 Finch West - Late opening on Mon., Aug. 3

This Mon., Aug. 3, LRT service on Line 6 between Finch West and Humber College stations will start at 4 p.m., due to planned signaling software upgrade work by Metrolinx.

Shuttle buses will be operating frequently, stopping at each station along the route. Wheel-Trans service will be available for any customer requiring assistance. Customers can speak with TTC staff for assistance.

Humber College Station and all stops on Line 6 will remain closed to customers during the closure. The Line 6 portion of Finch West Station will also be closed, including the passenger tunnel connecting Lines 1 and 6.

Line 1 Yonge-University – Tuesday through Thursday early nightly subway closures between Lawrence West and St George stations

Tues., Aug. 4 to Thurs., Aug. 6, subway service on the portion of Line 1 Yonge-University between Lawrence West and St George stations will end nightly at 1 a.m., for planned track work. These planned closures will start later, to accommodate customers travelling home from the concerts at Rogers Stadium.

Shuttle buses will be operating frequently, stopping at each station along the route. Wheel-Trans service will be available for any customer requiring assistance. Customers can speak with TTC staff for assistance.

Glencairn and Dupont stations will be closed, as well as the Heath St. entrance at St Clair West Station and the Kendal entrance at Spadina Station. All other subway stations will remain open for customers to load PRESTO cards, purchase PRESTO tickets, and connect to surface routes.

While the TTC does most subway maintenance after service each night, it continues to require weekend and early weeknight closures to complete critical infrastructure and state-of-good-repair work.
