Celebrate New Year’s festivities with free TTC and extended service
The TTC is the fastest, safest, and most reliable way to enjoy New Year’s festivities throughout Toronto. On Wed., Dec. 31, TTC service will be free from 7 p.m. until 8 a.m. on Thurs., Jan. 1, making it easier for everyone to travel safely to and from celebrations. No fare will be charged for any TTC service, including buses, subways, the LRT, streetcars, or Wheel-Trans.
The transit agency will operate additional buses, subways, and streetcars to ensure customers can travel safely to and from New Year’s Eve celebrations. From midnight to 2 a.m., special express buses will connect partygoers directly to Line 2 from two key locations along Queens Quay, providing convenient access for those attending events near Toronto’s waterfront.
Subway service will run later than usual, with the last trains on each line mostly departing before 3 a.m. Late-night bus and streetcar service running on the Blue Night Network will operate until regular service begins at 8 a.m.
Subway last train times will be as follows:
Line 1 Yonge-University
- Last train from Union Station will depart at 2:31 a.m. towards Finch Station and 2:27 a.m. towards Vaughan Metropolitan Centre Station.

Union Station
After midnight, TTC customers entering Union Station on foot will be directed to the entrance on Bay St., south of Front St. The City and Toronto Police will monitor access and customer flow through these doors to prevent crowding in the subway station. If the TTC station becomes overcrowded, customer flow will be managed from outside, potentially requiring customers to line up on Bay Street before being admitted.
The accessible entry will be maintained on Bay St. and through the Bay Promenade inside the station.
The TTC advises customers planning to attend celebrations in the central waterfront area to consider alternatives to Union Station. These options include using other Line 1 stations such as St Andrew, Osgoode, King and Queen.
After Midnight: Special Express Buses to Line 2
Starting at midnight until 2 a.m., special express buses will operate on two routes to connect customers from the waterfront to Line 2 Bloor-Danforth.
- To Sherbourne Station from the intersection of Jarvis St. and Queens Quay E.
- To Bathurst Station from the intersection of Spadina Ave. and Queens Quay W.
