TTC welcomes added police resources

The Toronto Transit Commission today welcomed news that an additional 36 policing resources will be forthcoming to assist with traffic, and safety and security on Canada’s largest transit system.

The TTC has a current complement of 103 highly-trained special constables – all of whom meet the training standards set out by the Toronto Police Services Board. The men and women of the TTC’s Special Constable Services are peace officers with powers of arrest, sworn to serve and protect TTC customers, employees and property.

The TTC has a six-year plan that will see 176 special constables in the system by 2011. News that TTC special constables will be bolstered by additional policing resources is positive news for all TTC users, said Chief General Manager, Gary Webster.
