Passionate about curating programming that ignites cultural conversations, Weyni Mengesha is a Canadian, award-winning stage and film director, and one of the first Black artistic directors of a major theatre company known for her groundbreaking work and community engagement.
Born in Vancouver to parents from Ethiopia, Mengesha grew up in Scarborough, Ontario, and from 2006 to 2008 was a member of Soulpepper Theatre Company’s training program, Soulpepper Academy. She later served as Artistic Director of the renowned artist-driven company from 2019 to 2025.
