TTC Special Constables

Role Overview

The Special Constable plays a key role in maintaining a safe, respectful, and inclusive transit environment. This includes supporting full and equitable access to the TTC for customers and employees, in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code.

As a sworn Special Constable/Peace Officer and Provincial Offences Officer, the role enforces federal, provincial, and municipal legislation, and acts as an agent/occupier of TTC properties. Duties are carried out in alignment with established contracts, policies, and procedures.

Work Schedule

  • Minimum 80 hours bi‑weekly
  • Ability to work rotating shifts in a 24/7 operational environment

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following at the time of hire:

  • Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Legally eligible to work in Canada
  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • No criminal convictions for which a pardon has not been granted

Language Requirements

  • Proficiency in English (oral, reading, and writing)

Police Record Check

  • Completion of a Level 3 Vulnerable Sector Check through your local Police Service Note: Third party background checks are not accepted.

Education Requirements

Certificates & Testing

Candidates must meet the following certification and testing requirements:

  • Standard First Aid and CPR – Level C (valid and current)
  • Physical Readiness:
    • Completion of the TTC Special Constable Physical Assessment (PIN Test)
  • Ability to learn, meet, and maintain TTC standards in:
    • Use of Force continuum
    • Legislative authorities

Other Assessments: Candidates may be required to complete additional screening, which can include:

  • Fingerprinting
  • Driver’s licence history review
  • Reference checks
  • MMPI written psychological assessment
  • Psychological interview

Asset Qualifications

Experience working equitably with diverse communities – including Indigenous, Black and other racialized groups; people with disabilities; newcomer communities; low-income populations; multilingual groups; and 2SLGBTQ+ communities – is considered an asset.
