Upcoming subway closures and service adjustments

The TTC is advising customers of several temporary service adjustments this weekend to accommodate planned infrastructure improvements, modernization work, and major city events.

Late opening on Line 2 Bloor-Danforth, Sept. 13

Subway service on Line 2 Bloor-Danforth between St George and Broadview stations will be replaced by shuttle buses until 11 a.m. on Sun., Sept. 13, due to beam inspection and replacement along the Prince Edward Viaduct, and cabling work between Sherbourne and Bloor-Yonge stations. The improvements will help ensure a smoother ride for customers and are also part of the ongoing modernization of the subway system and communications network. 

TTC staff will be available to assist customers and answer questions they may have, and Wheel-Trans service will be available upon request.

Bay and Sherbourne stations will be closed, as will the Yonge St. entrance to Line 2 at Bloor-Yonge Station. All other stations will remain open for customers to purchase or load a PRESTO card, PRESTO Ticket, and connect to surface routes.

Monday to Friday – Early nightly closures on Line 1 between St Clair and College stations

Subway service on Line 1 Yonge-University between St Clair and College stations will end nightly at 11:59 p.m. from Mon., Sept. 14, through, Fri., 18, due to planned track work and rail tie replacement. This work will help to remove the restricted speed zones that are in place northbound between Bloor-Yonge and Rosedale and southbound between Wellesley and College stations, by early October.

Shuttle buses will operate frequently between stations. TTC staff will be available to assist customers and Wheel-Trans service will be available upon request.

Summerhill and Rosedale stations will be closed, as well as the Dundonald St. entrance at Wellesley Station. All other stations will remain open for customers to purchase or load a PRESTO card, PRESTO Ticket, and to connect to surface routes.

While most subway maintenance is completed overnight when the system is closed, some larger projects require early nightly and weekend closures to allow crews safe and uninterrupted access to complete critical infrastructure improvements.

This past weekend, crews worked after hours to:

• Replace 120 ft of rail
• Remove the restricted speed zone between Wilson and Yorkdale stations  
• Complete preventative switch maintenance
• Clean drains and catch basins
• Perform grouting and plaster repairs

Streetcar service adjustments for the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF)

Streetcar service along the 504A/304 King and 508 Lake Shore routes will be adjusted from 5 a.m., on Thurs., Sept. 10 until 5 a.m., Mon., Sept. 14 and Tues., Sept. 15 from 3 p.m. to 11:59 p.m., due to TIFF. During these times service will be diverted as follows:

• Eastbound from King St. W., north on Spadina Ave., east on Queen St. W., south on York St., east on Adelaide St., and south on Church St.
• Westbound from King St. W., north on Church St., west on Richmond St., north on York St., west on Queen St., and south on Spadina Ave.

504B King streetcars will not operate west of York St. Streetcars will divert south on Church St., west on Wellington St., and north on York St., before turning back east to Broadview Station along King St. W.

Route diversions due to events this weekend

149 Etobicoke-Bloor and 300 Bloor-Danforth buses will divert both ways on Islington Ave., Dundas St. W., and Prince Edward Dr. N., from 11 a.m. Sept. 11 until 11:59 p.m., Sept. 13, due to the Taste of the Kingsway.
