TTC continued to deliver reliable service amidst historic storm

Despite one of the most significant storms to hit Toronto this year, TTC service continues to operate across the network as scheduled today. Through enhanced preparedness, rapid service adjustments and the dedication of frontline employees, the TTC was able to maintain service across bus, Wheel-Trans, and much of the streetcar, subway and LRT network last night during severe rainfall, hail, strong winds and flooding.

While service decisions are made in real time based on safe operating conditions during extreme weather events, alternate routes and diversions are carefully thought out in advance to ensure continuity of service for customers.

That planning proved instrumental yesterday as staff quickly adjusted service when the storm hit, ensuring continued safe operations despite flooding across the city and debris that blocked roadways along various routes.

"Keeping Toronto moving safely during extreme weather takes planning, teamwork and exceptional dedication," said TTC CEO Mandeep S. Lali. "Thousands of TTC employees responded immediately as conditions changed, adjusting service, clearing stations, restoring infrastructure and keeping customers informed. Their efforts demonstrate the resilience of our transit system and the commitment our employees bring to this city every day. We also know that the preventative work they do during the important weekend closures and overnight maintenance periods played a role in keeping the system moving. I’d like to thank our customers for their patience and our employees for their incredible work.”

TTC crews worked collaboratively with the City of Toronto, Toronto Hydro and Metrolinx to ensure areas impacted by the storm were quickly cleared and power restored to help keep service moving for everyone who relies on the TTC no matter the weather.

The TTC is committed to keeping customers informed about work and events that impact service, as well as alternate route options. For the most up-to-date information, follow @TTCNotices on X or sign up for e-Alerts. Customers can also use Transit app to plan their journey in real-time.
