Scarborough Busway now open, delivering faster and more reliable transit to Scarborough
The TTC celebrated the opening of the Scarborough Busway this morning, welcoming hundreds of customers during the morning commute and marking a significant milestone for transit service in Scarborough.
The dedicated four-kilometre busway runs between Kennedy Station and Ellesmere, with additional stops at Tara Ave. (Tara Ave./Mooregate Ave.) and Lawrence East. TTC CEO Mandeep S. Lali was on-site at Kennedy Station and Scarborough Centre Station to greet some of the first customers to use the busway.
“The opening of this busway is an exciting moment for our customers and for transit in Scarborough,” said TTC CEO Mandeep S. Lali. “This new corridor will make transit faster, more reliable and more convenient for thousands of riders, saving customers an average of seven minutes per trip between Kennedy and Scarborough Centre stations, or more than an hour each week. We’re delivering faster, more reliable transit for Scarborough.”
The Busway is expected to serve more than 100,000 riders each week, with multiple TTC routes using the corridor, including:
- 38 Highland Creek
- 129 McCowan North
- 131 Nugget
- 133 Neilson
- 154 Curran Hall
- 903 Kennedy Stn-Scarborough Express
- 904 Sheppard-Kennedy Express
- 938 Highland Creek Express
- 939 Finch Express
The 43 Kennedy and 57 Midland routes remain unaffected.
Built along a section of the former Line 3 Scarborough Rapid Transit (SRT) corridor, the Scarborough Busway was completed six months ahead of the originally projected schedule. It begins at Kennedy Station, with stops at Tara Ave./Mooregate Ave., Lawrence East Station, and Ellesmere Station. Buses then use Ellesmere road’s priority bus infrastructure to connect to Scarborough Town Centre. Total travel time between Kennedy Station and Scarborough Centre Station is approximately 15 minutes.
