TTC customers save nearly $2 million in first month of fare-capping program
TTC customers saved $1.8 million in September through the new fare-capping program, with close to 60,000 riders receiving 595,000 free trips after reaching the monthly fare cap of 47 trips.
Fare-capping was introduced on Sept. 1, 2026. After 47 paid trips in a month, customers who pay with a PRESTO card, debit card or credit card automatically ride free for the remainder of that month.
“Monthly fare-capping is putting money back into our customers' pockets and making transit more affordable for the people who rely on the TTC most,” said TTC CEO Mandeep S. Lali. “We are committed to making the TTC more affordable, convenient and reliable for our customers.”
To benefit from the monthly fare cap, customers are reminded they must use the same payment method every time they pay their fare. Trip counts are tracked separately by payment method and will reset at the beginning of each month.
Monthly fare-capping is part of the TTC's ongoing commitment to make public transit more affordable, convenient and accessible. The program automatically rewards frequent riders without requiring them to purchase a monthly pass in advance.
With the introduction of fare capping, the Youth, Adult and Senior TTC Monthly Passes, as well as the Youth and Senior 12-Month Passes have been discontinued.
Adult customers who subscribe to the TTC 12-Month Pass and post-secondary students who purchase a TTC Post-Secondary Monthly Pass should continue to use these as they guarantee the lowest fare and best value.
