TTC and Royal Canadian Legion launch annual poppy campaign

The TTC and the Toronto Royal Canadian Legion officially launched the annual TTC Poppy Campaign today at Leslie Station, bringing together Canadian veterans and Grade 4 students from Davisville Public School to honour those who have served and sacrificed for Canada.

TTC CEO Mandeep S. Lali and Royal Canadian Legion Deputy District Commander Linda Simone joined veterans from Sunnybrook Veterans Centre and 50 students from Davisville Public School for the special ceremony, which included veterans pinning poppies on students as a symbol of remembrance and gratitude.

"The TTC has a proud history of service and sacrifice, and we are honoured to continue our longstanding partnership with the Royal Canadian Legion," said TTC CEO Mandeep S. Lali. "The annual poppy campaign is an important opportunity for our employees and customers to come together, show their appreciation for Canada's veterans and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice."

This year’s campaign also marks the Royal Canadian Legion’s 100th anniversary and recognizes the TTC’s long history of military service. TTC customers are encouraged to wear a poppy, make a contribution and show their appreciation to veterans throughout the campaign.

TTC Remembrance Day observances

On Wed., Nov. 11, at 11 a.m., all TTC services will pause for two minutes of silence to honour Canadians who lost their lives in military service.

To mark Remembrance Day, TTC buses and streetcars will display “Lest We Forget” signs, and messages honouring Canada’s veterans will appear on platform video screens throughout the subway system. The TTC Honour Guard will also participate in the Remembrance Day ceremony at the Cenotaph at Old City Hall.

The TTC will offer free rides on Remembrance Day to active members of the Canadian military and veterans, along with one companion each. Canadian military members, veterans and peacekeepers can show their military ID, service medals or ribbons to receive free access to TTC buses, streetcars, Wheel-Trans and the subway and LRT systems.
