TTC and Transit app partner to enhance trip planning ahead of FIFA World Cup 2026™
Starting Sun., June 7, the TTC will begin offering several new trip-planning features through an expanded partnership with Transit app. This navigational tool will make it easier for visitors and longtime TTC customers to stay informed, find their way and feel confident travelling through the city.
The TTC is making step-by-step navigation available for TTC stations on lines 1, 2, 4 and 6 through trip planning apps, including Transit. At Bathurst, Dufferin, Union, Bloor-Yonge, King and St Andrew stations, these instructions align with new exit identification signage, enabling customers to better route their journey to the best exit. This new feature is launching ahead of FIFA World Cup 2026™ to help customers, especially those who are less familiar with the city, navigate the city more easily and confidently.
As an added bonus this summer, Toronto transit users will also gain access to Transit’s premium trip planning service, Royale, free of charge, meaning more relevant service and detour information in real time. This will be an enhancement to the TTC’s previous partnership with Transit on a pilot that automatically tracks route diversions.
“This partnership with Transit app is about providing a more modern digital experience for people using our system,” said TTC Chair Jamaal Myers. “Having a great wayfinding app right in your pocket helps every step of their journey – from planning, to making those transfers, to getting to your destination.”
“We’ve listened to our customers and are making it easier for them to get through our stations with confidence,” said TTC CEO Mandeep S. Lali. “Better information, clearer directions, and tools that work in real time. That matters every day, and it matters even more as we welcome visitors for the World Cup.”
“The TTC has been one of our closest collaborators for years, and this is the next stage of our strong partnership. Hundreds of thousands of Torontonians already rely on the Transit app to navigate the region. By focusing on improving the customer experience, this exciting partnership will drive better outcomes for all. It will help the TTC continue to build up internal staff capacity in digital service communication, give them new tools for customer feedback, and provide TTC customers complete access to the world’s best public transit app. All the while continuously improving TTC’s open data to ensure the benefits of our collaboration are shared with all other apps and customer touchpoints. We’re extremely excited to continue working with the TTC team and supporting TTC customers,” said Kaj Huddart, Partnerships, Transit app.
The TTC will also continue to leverage targeted customer surveys through Transit – a tool that has enabled direct feedback from customers and provided important insights into improvements to station cleanliness and safety.
These new Transit app features are part of a suite of wayfinding improvements that the TTC is using to support service during FIFA World Cup 2026™ and beyond, including new signage, a pilot of accessible tool NaviLens and upgrades to the TTC service updates webpage. Through its work with Transit, the TTC has also advanced its General Transit Feed Specification (GTFS) data systems – making real-time information more available and accurate for all trip planning apps that rely on it.
