TTC continuing work to restore streetcar service along Spadina Ave.

Work to replace damaged underground power cables that supply electricity to the overhead streetcar wires along Spadina Ave. is progressing, and the TTC remains on track to complete repairs by the end of the week.

On Mon., Feb. 23, the damage was identified with reports of a cable chamber fire, and repair work began overnight and continued around the clock.  All 640 metres of damaged underground electrical cables are expected to be replaced by end of the day today, Wed., Feb. 25. The cables run from Adelaide to Queen St. through multiple cable chambers along the Spadina corridor. Once cable replacement is complete, the TTC will use the next few days to restore connections, do testing, and confirm that the infrastructure is safe for streetcar operations.

Replacement 510 Spadina buses are operating between Spadina Station and Queen’s Quay to maintain service for customers, and additional staff are on hand at Spadina and Union stations, as well as the Queen’s Quay transfer point, to assist with wayfinding and transfers. Extra streetcar service has been added along the waterfront between Union Station and Queen’s Quay.

The cable replacement work is being carried out by contractor forces, with TTC staff supporting the remainder of the work necessary to restore streetcar service. Bus replacement service will remain in place until all testing is complete.

The TTC is committed to keeping customers informed about work and events that impact service, as well as alternate route options. For the most up-to-date information, follow @TTCNotices on X or sign up for eAlerts.
