Weekend subway closure on Line 2 cancelled

The TTC is cancelling this weekend’s planned subway closure on Line 2 between Keele and St George stations, as it continues to inspect the root cause of two recent hydraulic fluid leaks on work cars.

On Fri., April 10, TTC CEO Mandeep S. Lali suspended the work car fleet effective immediately, until the TTC is confident that the cars are safe and reliable to operate. As a result of this suspension, this weekend’s closure will not proceed, as work cars are required to transport materials and carry out essential functions during the closure.

Subway service will operate as scheduled on Saturday and Sunday on all subway lines.

This weekend’s closure was to allow for the installation of 5G technology along that stretch of track to facilitate cellular service in the tunnels. This work remains a priority for the TTC, and teams will work to reschedule this closure ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup this summer.

The early nightly closure planned for tonight, Fri., April 10, on Line 1 between Lawrence West and St George stations will proceed as planned. In addition, TTC overhead work in the Harbourfront Tunnel this weekend will also continue as planned, with adjusted service on the 509 Harbourfront and 510/310 Spadina streetcars.

The TTC continues to work urgently to determine the causes of this week’s hydraulic fluid leaks and is committed to sharing findings from this investigation with the public.
