TTC employees raise over $800K for United Way Greater Toronto
TTC employees have raised $803,384.91 for United Way Greater Toronto, after a successful 2024 fundraising campaign that outraised the previous year by more than $125,000.
The achievement was celebrated at an event in Davisville. TTC Chair Jamaal Myers, TTC CEO Greg Percy, employees, and union representatives came together to present a cheque to United Way Greater Toronto.
“This outstanding fundraising effort exemplifies the true spirit of our city, where people come together to make a difference and uplift the lives of others,” said Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow. “I commend the TTC employees for their remarkable achievement and dedication to building a stronger, more inclusive Toronto.”
“I want to thank every TTC employee whose generosity once again raised an incredible amount of money that will support United Way Greater Toronto’s work across all areas of our city,” said TTC Chair Jamaal Myers. “This remarkable fundraising campaign is a true reflection of the character of the TTC team and their commitment to making a meaningful difference in the lives of their fellow Torontonians.”
“I couldn’t be prouder of this TTC team. By raising more than $800,000, TTC employees have once again demonstrated how deeply they care about the community they serve,” said TTC CEO Greg Percy. “The money raised by TTC employees will make a difference to many people. United Way does important work in our community increasing access to food, housing, and mental health care.”
In 2024, thousands of employees stepped forward to contribute to the United Way Greater Toronto through generous donations made through regular and one-off pay deductions. TTC employees also volunteered their time to hold fundraising events throughout the year, including the popular Halloween Fest at Bay Lower Station.
In addition to raising more than $803,000, TTC employees collected over 10,000 donations of toys and gifts during Stuff-the-Bus events held across the city. All donations were distributed to charities supporting children and families, including Sick Kids, Abuse Hurts, BDC Dovercourt Club, Community Place Hub, Parkdale Peace Project, Progress Place, Yonge Street Mission, Salvation Army, Dr. Roz’s Healing Place, Grace Place, and Centenary Hospital Children’s Ward.
The TTC extends its gratitude to everyone who has contributed to the success of these initiatives, both this year and in previous years. Their efforts have made a significant difference in the lives of those in need, spreading joy and hope throughout the holiday season.
