MADD and TTC to launch awareness campaign on dangers of impaired driving

MADD Toronto Chapter and the TTC have partnered on an awareness campaign to remind Torontonians of the dangers of impaired driving this holiday season.

Photos of impaired driving victims are being placed on the backs of TTC buses to pay tribute to the victims and their families, and to emphasize the importance of driving sober. This effort is part of MADD Canada’s Project Red Ribbon holiday campaign.

On Thurs., Nov. 7, the families of the victims will gather to see the buses with photos of their loved ones.

Media are invited to attend the event and unveiling of the buses as follows:

When: Thurs., Nov. 7th, 11:00 a.m.

Where: TTC Wilson Garage, 160 Transit Rd., M3H6C3 (see map)

The event will include remarks from TTC Chair Jamaal Myers, TTC CEO Greg Percy, Toronto Police Service Assistant Superintendent (Traffic Services) Matt Moyer, Ontario Provincial Police Detachment Commander (Whitby-Toronto) Inspector Jennifer Neamtz, Chief of Toronto Paramedic Services Bikram Chawla, Deputy Chief of Toronto Fire Services Jim Jessop, MADD Toronto Chapter President Bob Carreau, and a family member who has been impacted by impaired driving.

Running throughout the holiday season, MADD Project Red Ribbon raises awareness about the risks of impaired driving, and encourages motorists to always drive sober. Throughout the campaign, MADD Canada volunteers across the country distribute thousands of red ribbons and red ribbon car decals to the public to use as a symbol of their commitment to always drive sober. The ribbons also serve as a powerful tribute to the thousands of Canadians killed and injured in crashes involving alcohol and/or drugs each year.
