TTC shows support for 2SLGBTQ+ community in annual Pride celebration
The TTC is proud to announce its month-long celebration of Pride, starting with the raising of the Progress Pride Flag and the unveiling of the highly anticipated TTC Pride Bus. This special event will take place at the TTC’s flagship Hillcrest Complex on Fri., May 31.
This marks the beginning of the TTC’s annual celebration of Pride with its employees and customers. The theme of this year’s TTC Pride Bus is ‘BE Moved’, celebrating the right of 2SLGBTQ+ people to simply BE.
“Thank you to the TTC for joining the City in celebration of Pride, and for highlighting the fundamental right of 2SLGBTQ+ individuals to be their authentic selves without fear or discrimination,” said Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow. “Let’s stand together, Toronto. Let’s show our pride, our support, and our love for the 2SLGBTQ+ community. Let’s take the TTC to all the fabulous Pride events happening this June. And, let’s create a transit system where everyone feels welcome, valued, and accepted. Happy Pride Month Toronto!”
“By raising the Progress Pride Flag and introducing the Pride bus, the TTC is sending a clear message of support and solidarity to the 2SLGBTQ+ community,” said TTC Chair Jamaal Myers. “Pride is not just a celebration but a reminder of the ongoing work needed to foster a more inclusive and accepting society. The TTC is fully committed to creating a welcoming and supportive environment for all employees and customers, irrespective of their gender identity or sexual orientation. On behalf of the TTC Board, I wish everyone a happy Pride!”
“As we raise the Progress Pride Flag and reveal the Pride bus, the TTC is proudly demonstrating our commitment to diversity and inclusion with our more than 16,000 employees, and all members of the community,” said TTC CEO Rick Leary. “We are excited to stand with the 2SLGBTQ+ community and look forward to celebrating Pride month with our employees and customers, united in our mission to create a more welcoming and inclusive transit system for everyone. Happy Pride!”
Throughout June, the Pride bus will operate on the 94 Wellesley route, providing customers with the opportunity to ride in a colourful and festive vehicle that embodies the spirit of Pride. The bus will also feature in this year’s Pride Parade, and the Trans and Dyke marches.
Also throughout June, an internal multi-media campaign will feature TTC employees along with engaging activities to share the history and meaning behind each letter in the 2SLGBTQ+ acronym. The Progress Pride Flag will also be flown at TTC Head Office at 1900 Yonge St.
