TTC hosts Stuff-the-Bus school supplies collection campaign this weekend

With back-to-school quickly approaching, TTC employees are hosting a school-supplies collection campaign, with a goal to Stuff-the-Bus with 500 backpacks, for children in communities in Neighbourhood Improvement Areas in Toronto.

This weekend, Sat. Aug. 12, and Sun. Aug. 13, the TTC and the Conference of Minority Transportation Officials (COMTO) will be outside Walmart at 165 North Queen St. in Etobicoke from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to collect new backpacks, unopened school supplies and monetary donations. Members of the public are encouraged to come out to fill a TTC bus with supply-filled backpacks, and help the TTC and COMTO make back-to-school easier for children and their families who need it most.

“With the return to school approaching, I encourage all Torontonians who are able, to donate to Stuff-the-Bus this weekend,” said Mayor Olivia Chow. “Thank you to the incredible TTC employees and members of COMTO who are giving their time and energy to this generous initiative that gives so much to children and teens across our city.”

“I am so proud of our Recreation Council and all of our employees who embody our core values, donate generously, and volunteer their time to help the communities we serve every day,” said TTC CEO Rick Leary. “Stuff-the-Bus is an employee-led initiative, along with COMTO, to help kids and families in Neighbourhood Improvement Areas in Toronto. I want to thank everyone who makes this event and so many others possible with their generosity and community spirit.
