TTC streetcar and bus service changes begin May 1 to accommodate Ontario Line construction

The TTC is reminding customers that effective May 1, there will be changes to streetcar service and buses added along Queen Street to accommodate construction of the new Ontario Line connection at Queen Station.

Starting that day, the 501 Queen streetcar will divert both ways between McCaul St. and Broadview Ave. via Dundas St.

As well, a temporary new 501B bus branch will be created to minimize the impact on customers travelling through the downtown core along Queen.

These changes are expected to remain in place until next spring when the installation of new streetcar tracks on Adelaide St. is complete. TTC streetcars will then divert westbound along Richmond St. and eastbound along Adelaide St. for the duration of construction. As has been previously announced, the project will close Queen St. between Victoria and Bay streets until 2027.

During this first phase of the closure, TTC customers can stay on the 501 Queen streetcar through the downtown core with subway connections available at Yonge St. (Dundas Station) and University Ave. (St Patrick Station) or they can transfer between buses and streetcars at the following stops:

  • Eastbound: On Queen St. W. at John St. and on Broadview Ave., north of Queen St. E.
  • Westbound: On River St., south of Dundas St. E. and on Queen St. W. at John St.

501B Queen buses will operate as follows:

  • Eastbound: Bathurst St., east on Queen St. W., south on Bay St., east on King St., north on Church St. and east on Queen St. E., to Broadview Ave..
  • Westbound: River St., west on Queen St. E., south on Church St., west on Richmond St., north on Bay St., west on Queen St. W. to Bathurst St..

This bus will be removed from service, once the streetcar track work along Adelaide is complete.

301 Queen Blue Night buses will operate as follows:

  • Eastbound: east on Queen St. W., south on Bay St., east on King St., north on Church St., and east on Queen St. E., to regular route.
  • Westbound: west on Queen St. E., south on Church St., west on Richmond St., north on Bay St., west on Queen St. W., to regular route.

The new Ontario Line will enhance the accessibility and efficiency of transit for people travelling within Toronto and its surrounding areas.

It includes 15 new stations, starting from Exhibition Place, going through downtown and ending at the Ontario Science Centre. The line will connect to existing subway Line 1 at Osgoode and Queen stations, Line 2 at Pape Station, and Line 5 Eglinton at Science Centre Station, as well as to GO Transit rail services at Exhibition GO and the future East Harbour station.
