TTC honours National Day for Truth and Reconciliation with Sunrise Ceremony
In recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, the TTC is holding its first ever Sunrise Ceremony at its Hillcrest Complex tomorrow. The ceremony, led by Indigenous employees, will honour the children who never returned home and survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities.
“Tomorrow is a day for reflection, learning and committing to doing better. At the TTC, we strive for inclusivity,” said TTC CEO Rick Leary.
The TTC is providing its frontline employees with orange shirt pins to wear. Employees are also permitted to wear an orange t-shirt on top of their uniforms.
Customers may notice “Every Child Matters” flags and decals on vehicles. Other messages recognizing the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation are also being shared on station screens, social media, and across internal channels.
The TTC continues to work hard to recognize the diversity and cultures of its employees and customers, and strives to create an inclusive environment that Torontonians can be both proud of and feel welcomed by.
