TTC and Teck Resources Limited to launch antimicrobial copper project


The TTC, in partnership with Teck Resources Limited (Teck), will be installing antimicrobial copper coatings on high-touch surfaces on select TTC vehicles. This is part of a pilot project to test the efficacy and durability of copper in killing bacteria and viruses in high-traffic settings.

The TTC will be hosting a media event tomorrow, Tues., Sept. 28, to unveil the coating and launch the project. Details are as follows:

Location: Greenwood Complex (400 Greenwood Ave., Toronto, ON, M4J 4Y5)

The event will include remarks from TTC CEO Rick Leary, Teck President and CEO Don Lindsay and Dr. Marthe Charles, Division Head of Medical Microbiology and Infection Prevention and Control at Vancouver Coastal Health.

Media will be welcome to take photos, capture b-roll, or conduct interviews immediately following the event.

Public Health guidelines and social distancing restrictions will be adhered to at the event, as per local and provincial recommendations. Guests in attendance will be required to complete COVID self-assessment forms upon arrival. Masks and hand sanitizing will be available.

Please note that all attendees are required to wear steel-toe or closed-toe shoes.
