Parts of TTC Line 1 to close this weekend

This weekend, June 8-9, the TTC is closing two different portions of Line 1 – one each day – to enable TTC crews to continue installation of the Automatic Train Control (ATC) signalling system.

Replacement shuttle buses will run both days and Wheel-Trans will be available upon request from any station. Customers can speak with a TTC staff member for more information about service frequency.

Saturday
On Saturday only, the portion of Line 1 between Lawrence and Bloor-Yonge stations will be closed. Shuttles will run, stopping outside each station along the route. Summerhill Station will be closed, but all others will remain open for fare sales and access to surface routes. Please note that Lawrence Station is not yet accessible. Customers who require an accessible connection should use York Mills Station instead.

Sunday
On Sunday only, the portion of Line 1 between St Clair and Union stations will be closed. Shuttles will run, stopping outside each station along the route. Summerhill and Wellesley stations will be closed, but all others will remain open for fare sales and access to surface routes.

Portions of the TTC’s signal system date back to the 1950s when the subway first opened. When ATC is fully installed on Line 1, it will allow improved capacity on the line.  ATC is currently installed on 50% of Line 1, the portion between Vaughan Metropolitan Centre and St Patrick stations. Customers travelling in the ATC area are already experiencing the increased reliability that comes with the modern signal system.

While the TTC does most subway maintenance at the conclusion of service each night, it continues to require weekend and early weeknight closures to complete critical infrastructure and maintenance upgrades.

The TTC is committed to keeping customers informed about work and events that impact service and about alternative routes. For the most up-to-date information, follow @TTCNotices on Twitter or sign up for eAlerts.
