A Portion of TTC Line 1 to close early Wed & Thurs for signal upgrades

This Wednesday and Thursday night, Apr. 24-25, the portion of Line 1 between Bloor-Yonge and St Andrew stations will close at 11 p.m. to enable the TTC to continue modernization of its Automatic Train Control (ATC) signaling system.
 
Shuttle buses will run frequently and stop outside each affected station. Wheel-Trans will provide service to customers requiring accessible connections.

Wellesley Station will close at 11 p.m. but all other stations will remain open for fare sales and access to surface routes.

Portions of the TTC's signal system date back to the 1950s when the subway first opened. When ATC is fully installed on Line 1, it will allow improved capacity on the line.  ATC is currently installed on 40% of Line 1, the portion between Vaughan Metropolitan Centre and Dupont stations, and is due to extend to St Patrick Station this spring. Customers travelling in the ATC area are already experiencing the increased reliability that comes with the modern signal system.

While the TTC does most subway maintenance at the conclusion of service each night, it continues to require weekend and early weeknight closures to complete critical infrastructure and ATC upgrades.
