TTC, Metrolinx, York Region Transit win innovation award

Today, TTC Special Constables joined colleagues from Metrolinx and York Region Transit (YRT) to receive an Innovation Award from the Canadian Urban Transit Association (CUTA) for their work on the first Special Constable Women’s Symposium, which was held August 25, 2018.

The sold-out symposium was held to encourage more women to join the field of transit safety through education and networking opportunities, and included sessions with leaders in public transit and transit enforcement on topics ranging from dealing with violence to maintaining work-life balance.

Across transit agencies, women currently make up between nine and 15 per cent of Special Constables, who provide a critical service keeping millions of transit customers safe.

Special Constables Jessica Langley from Metrolinx, Pamela Ashcroft, Jay Lawrence and David Moskowitz from TTC and Susan Wonch from YRT received the award on behalf of their organizations for their work in promoting a diverse and inclusive workplace, and for the well-deserved honour.
