Online voting for TTC subway musicians now open
The TTC is calling on all of Toronto to help pick new subway musicians for its Underground Sounds program. Online voting is open now through June 3 to award 90 three-year licenses.
Over the last month, 182 qualifying musicians successfully submitted auditions via YouTube for the opportunity to perform in more than two dozen stations for a three-year period beginning in October.
In addition to a spot in the Underground Sounds program, the top 10 qualifiers as determined by online voting and judges will perform live for a panel of industry experts, including representatives from Universal Music Canada and the TTC, for a chance at recording time and a spot on an exclusive Apple Music playlist.
The subway musicians program has been enhancing TTC customers’ experiences for almost 40 years, while providing exposure to local musicians. Past and current TTC musicians include Juno Award winners, Royal Conservatory of Music graduates, symphony performers and published musicians.
Only those musicians licensed by the TTC are permitted to perform on TTC property. The TTC reminds everyone that performing on a vehicle or in a station without a license is a violation of TTC bylaws.
