As a safety precaution, the TTC implements restricted speed zones along sections of rail where maintenance is required after subway service has ended. Operating speeds are reduced through those sections to allow trains to safely continue operating during service hours.
Reduced speed zones around work areas, as well as other safety measures, protect workers if they need to be at track level to conduct routine or emergency inspections during service hours. At any given time, subway systems like Toronto’s can expect to have two-to-three reduced speed zones at any one time.
The TTC thanks its customers for their patience. Communicating these service impacts via social media, the news media, its website and by train crews helps ensure customers have up-to-date information before departing on their journey or while en route.
