TTC sets the stage for new-look Subway Musicians zones

The TTC's Subway Musicians program is getting a new look.

As part of a six-month pilot program rolling out this week, dedicated performance areas at Bloor-Yonge, Spadina, Main Street and Finch stations have been revamped, improving visibility and identity for the performers.

The new areas consist of a vinyl "stage" on the floor and complementary themed wall decal that will help raise the profile of the 75 talented and professional acts that perform for customers throughout the subway system. Today, subway musicians rotate through 25 of the TTC’s 69 stations.

This is the first time in the 36-year history of the program that subway musicians will play in areas marked by anything other than the current dotted outline provided for the musicians themselves.

The pilot will allow the TTC to consider a broader roll-out plan and assess the potential for paid sponsorship, as is done in other systems around the world.
