TTC track work on Line 2 this weekend

This weekend, Nov. 5-6, TTC crews will undertake track maintenance and repairs, requiring Line 2 Bloor-Danforth to close between Pape and St George stations. Shuttle buses will operate frequently throughout the weekend, stopping only at subway stations along the route.

Wheel-Trans buses will operate between Pape and St George stations for customers requiring an accessible connection. Customers can speak with TTC staff at these stations to request the service.

Chester and Bay stations will be closed. All other stations will remain open for the sale of fares.

While the TTC does much of its subway maintenance work at the conclusion of service each night, it requires weekend closures to upgrade its signal system, but also conduct more complex state-of-good-repair work, such as replacing track and maintaining switches. One weekend of work during a closure is equivalent to about five weeks of nightly work.

Here is a video explanation of why the TTC needs weekends to complete critical work.

PRESTO is not yet available on all shuttle buses. Customers should carry tokens, tickets or cash in case the bus that arrives is not yet PRESTO-equipped.

Regular subway service resumes Monday at 6 a.m. The final subway closures for 2016 are:

  • Line 1 Yonge-University: St George to Lawrence West - Nov. 12-13
  • Line 3 Scarborough: Entire line - Nov. 19 only and Nov. 26 only
  • Line 1: Wilson to Downsview - Dec. 3-4
  • Line 2: Pape to St George - Dec. 3-4
