TTC streetcars return to Exhibition Loop in time for The Ex
Annual service enhancements added through Sept. 5
TTC streetcar service to the Exhibition grounds has resumed and will remain in place for the duration of the Canadian National Exhibition.
As well, service enhancements will be made to routes servicing The Ex from August 19 to Sept. 5.
Completion of some of the scheduled maintenance and contruction work on the Exhibition Loop means the return of the 511 Bathurst streetcar from Bathurst Station and the 509 Harbourfront streetcar from Union Station. The streetcars will run with increased frequency providing more CNE visitors with quick and reliable transportation in and out of the grounds.
Work completed includes the rehabilitation of concrete on both TTC and GO properties (eastbound GO platform), replacing a 100-year-old retaining wall with a new barrier wall that separates the respective properties, and some track replacement.
As previously planned, streetcar service to the loop will temporarily halt again after Labour Day weekend through late November to allow for the completion of additional essential work (track replacement and drainage) on the south side of the loop and to the west side of Strachan Ave. At that time, buses will replace streetcars on the portion of both the 509 and 511 routes between the Fleet Loop and the CNE grounds. During events, extra 509/511 buses may be scheduled.
Additional CNE service
In addition to the frequent 509 and 511 services, the TTC will enhance the following routes during The Ex:
- 29 Dufferin – frequent bus service from Wilson and Dufferin stations to Dufferin Gate Loop
- 193 Exhibition Rocket – frequent non-stop express bus service from Dundas West Station to Dufferin Gate Loop
- 514 Cherry – streetcar service from King and St Andrew stations to Dufferin Gate Loop (new this year)
- 511 Bathurst – frequent streetcar service from Bathurst Station to Exhibition Loop
- 509 Harbourfront – frequent streetcar service from Union Station to Exhibition Loop
