City of Toronto and TTC to unveil collaborative community murals

Toronto Councillors Janet Davis (Ward 31 Beaches-East York), Paula Fletcher (Ward 30 Toronto-Danforth) and Mary Fragedakis (Ward 29 Toronto-Danforth) will join Toronto Transit Commission Chair Josh Colle at an event to unveil new murals at the TTC’s Coxwell Station. The murals were created through youth mentorship program City on the Move - Young Artists in Transit – East, a project of the City of Toronto, the TTC and community partners Arts for Children and Youth and Children's Peace Theatre.

Date:        Tuesday, March 24
Time:     4 p.m.
Location: Coxwell Station (street level)

Through this innovative partnership initiative, which included community consultation, local youth worked with an artist mentor to create large murals to be mounted on construction hoarding outside Woodbine and Coxwell stations. The artwork reflects the local community and includes artistic contributions from Toronto's Poet Laureate George Elliott Clarke.

The murals will be on display throughout the construction projects that will make the stations accessible to all customers. For more information please visit: www.toronto.ca/cityonthemove.ca.
