TTC to close portion of Line 2 at 10 p.m. to make permanent tunnel repairs

The Toronto Transit Commission will close a portion of Line 2 (Bloor-Danforth) between Ossington and Keele stations this evening starting at 10 p.m. to undertake permanent repairs to the subway tunnel that was damaged near Dundas West Station.

The TTC will deploy more than 50 shuttle buses between Ossington and Keele stations. Customer service staff will be in place across the line to aid and assist passengers in getting to their destinations.

Normal subway service will resume at 6 a.m. tomorrow.

The work this evening is in preparation for a final, permanent repair, to be completed on Thursday evening during normal maintenance hours – an early closure Thursday is not anticipated. The pile that has punctured the tunnel will be removed next week. Metrolinx is investigating the circumstances around this incident.

The subway tunnel remains safe, but a permanent repair must be made to ensure another intrusion of water and mud does not force a further unplanned disruption of service. While the TTC always attempts to undertake repairs and maintenance during weekends and overnight, this work requires additional preparation time that an early closure affords. Nuit Blanche activities this Saturday evening commit the TTC to operating subway service throughout the night and into Sunday, uninterrupted, leaving this evening as the best option for the early closure.
