TTC subway signal upgrade and track work this Saturday

The Toronto Transit Commission is continuing signal upgrade work and track replacement on Line 1 (Yonge-University-Spadina) from Bloor to Eglinton stations this Sat., May 31. Subway trains will terminate at Bloor (northbound) and Eglinton (southbound) stations on Line 1.

The TTC will operate frequent shuttle bus service on Yonge St. between Bloor and Eglinton stations, stopping at Bloor, Rosedale, Summerhill, St Clair, Davisville and Eglinton stations.

During the closure, the TTC will have Wheel-Trans buses available to accommodate customers who use wheelchairs, scooters and other mobility aids.

The signal upgrade and track replacement work is part of the TTC’s commitment to modernization. During this one-day closure, approximately 1100 metres of new subway track will be installed north and south of St Clair Station.  For the signal work, 340 ground screws will be built to support new signal poles.

The existing signals, relays, wiring and cabling equipment, much of which is approaching 60 years old, need replacing as their frequent failure significantly impacts service. This necessary signal and track work will result in a more reliable service.

Customers heading to the Toronto Blue Jays game are encouraged to use the University line southbound from St George Station or the 510 Spadina from Spadina Station.

Regular subway service resumes on Sun., Jun. 1 at 9 a.m.
