TTC reminders for students heading back to school

The Toronto Transit Commission is reminding middle school and high school students that they are no longer required to carry TTC-issued photo ID when paying a discounted fare, but those over 16-years-old must carry their school-issued student photo ID or government-issued photo ID to present as proof of age if requested by TTC staff. Eligible students can ride the TTC with a $2.00 student cash fare, senior/student tickets sold at a discounted rate of five for $9.25, or a Senior/Student Metropass which provides unlimited travel for $108 per month. 

Post-Secondary students enrolled full-time at an accredited post-secondary institution in Toronto are eligible for the Post-Secondary Student Metropass, but must purchase a TTC Photo ID card to take advantage of the discounted pass.  Post-Secondary students must show their TTC Photo ID card every time they use their monthly Post-Secondary Student Metropass. For all other fare transactions, Post-Secondary students must use the Adult Weekly Pass, Token or adult cash fare.

The TTC will hold photo ID sessions at many colleges and universities in the coming weeks. Go to ttc.ca for details. Students can also purchase a Photo ID card at the TTC’s Photo ID Centre located at Sherbourne Station, Monday to Friday, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on the first and last business day of each month from 10 a.m.to 7 p.m.  The cost of the photo is $7.

Students travelling on the TTC are encouraged to carry bags in their hands when riding, or place it on their lap or on the floor in front of them as a courtesy to fellow riders.
