Streetcar diverting due to major fire at Broadview Avenue and Gerrard Street East

As a result of the closure of Broadview Avenue and Gerrard Street East due to a major building fire early yesterday morning, and the required demolition of that structure, the TTC will continue to have three streetcar routes on diversion: the 504 King, 505 Dundas and 506 Carlton.

Each service is being supported by shuttles buses along the east-end routes to provide customers through service.

The TTC is advising riders to plan an extra 30 minutes in their morning and afternoon rush-hour trips as a result of the diversion and lane closures required to accommodate the demolition.

Yesterday afternoon Toronto Fire Services advised the TTC to dismantle the streetcar overhead wires at the intersection to make way for demolition equipment. The TTC will wait for the demolition to be completed and for Toronto Fire Services to clear the way for the wires to be re-installed before regular streetcar service can resume through the area.
