TTC begins disciplinary process against bus operator involved in fatal crash

The Toronto Transit Commission began disciplinary proceedings against a TTC bus operator immediately following a fatal collision on Aug. 30. The employee was relieved of duty following the crash this past Tuesday.

While the crash is still under investigation, the TTC learned late in the evening on Aug. 30 that police suspected the operator had an unspecified quantity of illegal drugs in his possession.

The TTC found no evidence of impairment on the part of the operator.

The TTC has a fitness for duty policy and program in its workplace. That policy was invoked following the crash, as it is whenever a serious workplace accident or collision occurs.

The Toronto Police Service is leading the investigation into the crash and the allegation of drug possession. Police will determine what, if any, charges will be laid as a result of the crash and alleged drug possession.

The TTC will not be making any further comment at this time.
